- Opening for a Postdoctoral Researcher in HCI and EdTech, on mixed methods research design and interaction design in the area of understanding and guiding adolescents’ self-reflective use of digital technologies in the era of generative AI. The position is funded via the Horizon Europe project THRIVE.
I am an associate professor in HCI and Learning Technologies at Graz University of Technology, Deputy Head of the Institute of Human-Centred Computing, and research area head at the Know-Center, a research center on trustworthy AI.
Knowledge & Learning in an AI-Infused Society
Digital and AI-enabled technology shape what is worth knowing, which knowledge is built, and how. My research is characterised through the theory-led design of interactive & AI-enabled systems from a socio-technical and learning perspective. My technology focus is data analytics and AI; and my methods focus is interdisciplinary, using co-design, lab & field studies, and mixed methods.My research pionieers
- Language-based and conversational AI that makes us think; with conversational and hybrid interaction designs for building argumentation, reflection, and visual analytics understanding.
- AI-enabled guidance and learning analytics for informal, professional and vocational learning; with applications in the corporate, healthcare, education, and industrial sector; and in everyday learning settings.
- Productivity and learning as two inter-connected goals in human activity and technology design, with a tension between immediate task performance and building knowledge and competence over time.

- Best paper nominations at the European Conf. on Technology-Enhanced Learning, and outstanding paper award at the eBled Conference for digital business and society.
- Teaching awards: twice finalist for the TU Graz excellent teaching award for “Human-Centred Design”; currently nominated for “Artificial Intelligence 1”.

- External evaluator and expert in international scientific panels, e.g. for study program accreditation for a “Data Science for Sustainability” master programme AQ Austria; for professorial appointments, research grants, and in the Leibniz society’s evaluation committee for the IWM Tübingen.
- Editorial roles, such as a subcommittee chair for the A* conference ACM CHI, as a special issue editor to Q1 journals (IEEE Trans. Learn. Techn; British J. Ed. Techn), and panel moderator for discussing “Knowledge, Skills and AI” in this era of generative AI at the ACM Mensch und Computer.
