!!! Vacancies !!! - If you are interested in a research internship, please contact me via email.

I am an associate professor at Graz University of Technology, Deputy Head of the Institute of Human-Centred Computing, and research area head at the Know-Center, a research center on trustworthy AI.

AI, Interaction Design and Learning

Digital and AI-enabled technology, and the digital environments we live in, shape what is worth knowing, which knowledge is built, and how. My academic activities bring forward a technological and humanistic future in which digital and AI technology help humans develop competent agency in their endeavours. My research is characterised through the theory-led design of interactive & AI-enabled systems from a socio-technical and learning perspective. My technology focus is computer science (data analytics and AI); and my methods focus is interdisciplinary, using co-design, lab & field studies, and mixed methods.
In this era of AI & data-driven technology, my knowledge & learning perspective is key to ensure humans’ and society’s competent agency and oversight.

I have been the president of the International Alliance to Advance Learning in the Digital Era, and member of the European Association for Technology-Enhanced Learning's managing committee. Further, I have served the international scientific community as an external evaluator of research programs, grants and study programs (e.g., for the Leibniz society; the Dutch Research Council, for AQ Austria for a „Data Science for Sustainability“ masters program); in editorial and organisational roles for instance at the international A* conference ACM CHI; and as a special issue editor at renowned journals like the IEEE Transactions on Technologies for Learning and the British Journal of Educational Technology.

I engage in scientific outreach, such as in a blog series on digitalisation and interaction hosted by derStandard, an Austrian daily newspaper; an article on ethics and AI published at the Falter, an Austrian weekly magazine; or in a talk AI, knowledge and the development of expertise in a Business Brunch.
